How do Affiliate Marketers Make Money?
First, let’s talk briefly about how affiliate marketers make money. There’s a lot of hype about affiliate marketing, but there’s also a lot of misinformation, so I want to make it clear how affiliates make money.
In business, the lifeblood you need to continue thriving is new customers and sales. There are merchants all over the world with products and services that are looking for options to sell them. Affiliates partner with merchants to help them sell their products and services online.
The cool thing about affiliate marketing is you don’t have to cold call, cold email, or spam people for sales. Instead, there are training courses that can teach you how to attract potential customers to your affiliate partners’ products and services using ads and content marketing.
In summary, you need to choose a niche, build a website, get traffic, attract customers, and sell their products and services. You can see what it’s like to build a free WordPress website here…
Can You Get Rich From Affiliate Marketing?
Since affiliate marketing is a commission-based income, there’s really uncapped income potential. It can be slower than a job to build the income, but once it’s built, it can have major perks like:
- High income (incomparable to a job)
- Location freedom
- Time flexibility
- Promoting causes you believe in
- And lifestyle freedom
If you’re careful with how you spend your money, and you invest into assets that increase your net worth (rather than liabilities), then you can get rich as an affiliate marketer.
Honest Growth vs. Pipe Dreams: What’s the Growth Curve Really Look Like?
Affiliate marketing is a fairly new career field (considering the internet is still fairly new. Many people misuse the interest in the career field and sell “pipe dreams”. While it is true you can get rich from affiliate marketing, some people will try to convince you that the process to attain wealth is quick, easy, or “overnight”–this isn’t true.
Affiliate marketing mirrors other career fields in the fact that you have to study, learn the skills it takes, and take the time to implement. Many people have never built a website, designed a website, created content for internet users, gotten content to attract people online, and other very important tasks within affiliate marketing. As a result, they have to learn and practice in order to become good at affiliate marketing and make money.
Most people start out at $0 where they’ve never made a single dollar online, and over time, they’ll begin earning money. If they:
- have good training
- have a good work ethic
- take massive action
- and, do good with SEO or driving traffic
They may start earning as early as 3 months in, but this income is likely to be sporadic. By 18 months, the income should be more level, and possibly even full-time. For most people, it takes 2 years or more to earn a full-time income and longer to earn more lifestyle freedom or grow a company.
Good Affiliate Marketing Courses vs. Bad Ones: What’s the Difference?
Good affiliate marketing training is going to be the key to:
- Staying motivated
- Troubleshooting problems that come up
- Keeping hope
- and, seeing progress
A good affiliate marketing course will have:
- Success stories and proof it works (especially from third parties without incentives)
- High-quality tutorials to teach you step-by-step
- An easy way to get questions answered
- Mentorship from people with experience
- And, community support, so you can connect with your peers and support one another
In contrast, bad affiliate marketing courses will have:
- Methods and strategies that don’t work
- Low quality or no tutorials
- No easy way to ask questions or get answers
- Little or no mentorship
- And they don’t have a community or they have very poor engagement
You want to be very careful because a bad program can drastically slow you down from making progress while a good one will speed you up.
How can I Learn Affiliate Marketing?
To learn affiliate marketing, it’s best to find an affiliate marketer that’s trustworthy, and ask them how they learned. I’ve been in affiliate marketing now for 20 months, and over that time, I’ve been able to network with thousands of others to give you the recommendations I’ve enclosed and I’ve also created a free affiliate marketing course you can get started with here.
What is the Best Affiliate Marketing Program for Beginners?
There are affiliate marketing training programs that are best for beginners, and there are other programs that work better for intermediate to advanced marketers. An affiliate marketing course for beginners will teach you:
- How to choose affiliate products or services to sell
- and, there will be lots of support to help build your confidence (without continuous upsells)
My List of the Best Affiliate Marketing Courses in 2019
This is my list of the best affiliate marketing courses for beginner to advanced affiliate marketers.
1. Wealthy Affiliate – [Free and Paid versions]
Wealthy Affiliate is a platform with over 1.9 million members. It was founded by two very successful affiliate marketers, Kyle Loudon and Carson Lim. Two best friends who learned affiliate marketing while they were in college.
They offer market research tools, website hosting, domain registration and affiliate marketing training in one. The community started as a forum and over the last 15 years (since WA started), they’ve done lots of innovation, and today, it’s more like a social media site for affiliate marketers.
You’ll find a continuous flow of new training created by the founders and members, lots of support from the Wealthy Affiliate staff and community members, lots of success stories, and proprietary tools to help you maximize your success. You can learn affiliate marketing from being a complete newbie to advanced strategies like paid traffic, conversion tracking, and so on. Here’s more information on what’s included…
2. Create and Go
Create and Go was founded by a very cool couple. Alex Nerney and Lauren McManus started their first blog while they were working as a personal trainer and Certified Public Accountant. They were creating content and even made a digital product, but it fell flat.
They didn’t give up after their first fail though. They kept trying to make money online. They started their second blog and it became a smashing success. It was in the Yoga and Healthy Living niche. They made $100,000+ in their first year blogging on that site, then create courses to show others how they achieved that level of success.
Now, they’re earning $150,000+ every month, so they’re among the highest-earning affiliate marketers, and they’ve been in the field for less than 10 years! Their courses are very thorough and take you from choosing a niche to creating your own products. You can check out my full review of Create and Go here, or visit their website to check out their courses here.
3. Income School
If you’re looking to get into affiliate marketing for more of a passive income (like real estate or stocks), then Jim and Ricky’s Income School community may be something you want to look into. Over the last two years, they’ve grown a huge community of growing passive income niche websites. They teach you everything from basic website setup to advanced things like outsourcing.
The community at Income School is very engaged. They have students who post their success and results, encourage one another, and celebrate together. If you’re looking for a community to join where you can learn organic methods to drive traffic and make money from passive income niche websites, you may want to take a look! You can learn more about Income School by checking out my full review here or visit their website here.
4. Dare to Conquer
Dare to Conquer started out as Billionaire teach a group of bloggers how to make money blogging, then collectively, their earnings can amount to $1 billion. Since then, Billionaire Blog Club has evolved and even rebranded.
Paul Scrivs, the founder, noticed that bloggers didn’t think of themselves as business owners, and were too focused on the tactical tasks rather than the full business. With that observation, he decided to rebrand from “Billionaire Blog Club” to Dare to Conquer where he decided to teach everything about running a business online. He starts from the basics in his blog simple framework courses and moves onto affiliate marketing and creating digital products. You can learn more about Dare to Conquer in my review here or visit the website to check out the courses here.
5. Super Affiliate System
John Crestani is one of the highest-paid affiliate marketers that openly disclose his income. He openly says he makes $700,000+ monthly! Originally, I was not in favor of John because his “stage presence” was a little “over-the-top” to me. He likes to use money guns, throw money around, and show off his cars and houses. I thought his presentation was a little much and he marketed like a scammer.
I still went thru his course Super Affiliate System, and kept an open mind. If you’re looking for paid traffic strategies to use in Google, Bing, or Youtube ads, or you’d like to interact live with a very high-earning affiliate, you may want to take a look at John’s course Super Affiliate System. I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners because it doesn’t have enough info about setting up the basic website, designing it, or creating search engine optimized content, however, if you’re past that stage and you’re looking to learn from a successful affiliate, you may want to consider John’s course. To learn more about Super Affiliate System, check out my review and interview here or visit his website to check out his course here.
6. First Time Internet Marketing Profits
Ian Pribyl from StoppingScams.com has been a super affiliate for several companies (including Wealthy Affiliate). He decided to create his own courses to teach others how to be successful online like he’s been.
His course goes from teaching basic WordPress setup and skills to monetizing. You can learn more about First Time Internet Marketing Profits here.
7. Authority Site System
Mark Webster and Gael Breton have created several authority websites: some that they keep and some they’ve sold for up to 6-figures! They have a step-by-step system to build websites that can be valued at 6-figures or more. They teach from the very beginning where you’re building the website and they lead you all the way thru to outsourcing and scaling.
It’s a very comprehensive system with a Facebook community and ongoing updates. You don’t have ongoing fees with authority site system. It’s a one-off payment and access to lifetime updates. Learn more about Authority Site System in my review here or visit their site for more information here.
8. All About Affiliate Marketing
I started in affiliate marketing almost 2 years ago after my son got very sick. I was offering freelance digital marketing services, but I decided to pivot on my business model into something that gave me a more flexible schedule–that’s when I found Wealthy Affiliate.
I created “All About Affiliate Marketing” to supplement what students learn at Wealthy Affiliate. It helps you to see what tools you need, how the business works, to decide the difference between business models, how affiliate marketing works if you have an existing business, and various other things I’ve learned over my time in the industry. I give this course away for free at How to Entrepreneur. You can check out my free e-course here.
If you want to get optimal results in affiliate marketing, the best thing to do is to surround yourself with people who are successful and learn from them. These are the best affiliate marketing courses I’ve seen after reviewing hundreds across the industry.
My #1 recommendation helped me to go from affiliate marketing newbie to making a consistent income every month as an affiliate marketer within 15 months and I still get lots of support there. I recommend you check out my free e-course that includes my invitation to the platform that helped me most, and look into the others for ongoing learning and networking.
